What Should Be Avoided After A Periodontal Surgery Treatment?

It is normal to experience a little discomfort after a periodontal surgery, gums may even bleed and swell 24 hours after the surgery. Hard, crunchy and difficult to chew foods should be avoided and liquid intake should be increased. Smoking retards the healing process after a periodontal surgery and it should be avoided. Alcohol tends to make the mouth dry and may trigger gum disease to recur. Normal physical activities may be done, however strenuous ones should take place after the healing period for swelling and bleeding will persist if vigorous and strenuous activities are done. Superior oral hygiene should be practice after surgery to achieve effective results.
